After realizing I couldn't register for the Western States Endurance Run lottery because I lacked a qualifier, I waited for the Montrail Ultra Cup race schedule to come out. The two races that sounded enticing to me where the Gorges 100K and Lake Sonoma 50, but banking on a good day in the last qualifying race would have been a lot of pressure. Knowing how much I worry and doubt my abilities, several people recommended that I run Bandera 100K, a race I ran five years ago and didn't really enjoy—probably because I raced it off of little-to-no training and temperatures were in the single digits.
